Disney Union: 8,800 Part-Time Employees Laid Off

Disney Parks has announced its general plan for 28,000 layoffs, and in time we have received more specifics, including the layoff of the Grand Floridian Society Orchestra, Imagineers, Yehaa Bob, and non-union Cast Members.

We now have some details about layoffs in Disney’s union ranks.

The Service Trades Council Union represents more than 40,000 Disney World Cast Members.  They have announced that 8,800 part-time Cast Members will be laid off.  The layoffs are because resort occupancy and park attendance are still down and there isn’t enough work for all employees.  Union Cast Members have a contractual right to be recalled to their old jobs.  That right remains until October 1, 2022.

Full-time union Cast Members will be able to return to their old positions, or new ones, depending on the business need.  There will be no layoffs of full-time union Cast Members covered by the Service Trades Council Union.

A statement noted that 21,627 full-time union Cast Members and 3,877 part-time union Cast Members have been recalled to their jobs, and 7,731 full-time union Cast Members and 9,106 part-time union Cast Members are on furlough.

Sad that 8,800 part-time union Cast Members will be laid off?
