Disney World Closing Due to Coronavirus

The Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida is closing at the end of the day on Sunday, March 15 due to the Coronavirus.  It currently plans to remain closed from Monday, March 16 until the end of the month – with a reopen on April 1.  However, that could change.

There have not been any confirmed cases of infection at Disney World.

Disney has announced some information regarding the details of the closure, including that they will continue to pay Cast Members during the closure.

What About Tickets?

Unexpired multi-day tickets with unused days, or date-specific theme park tickets with a start date on or before March 31, 2020, will automatically be extended to use on any date through December 15, 2020. If you can’t visit by December 15, 2020, you may apply the value of a wholly unused ticket toward the purchase of a ticket for a future date.

Guests who purchased tickets for Disney After Hours, Disney Villains After Hours, and Disney Early Morning Magic from March 16, 2020, to March 31, 2020, will be automatically refunded.

Annual Passes

Walt Disney World annual passes will be extended by the number of days the park is closed, which is currently planned for March 16 – 31, 2020.

Disney Resort Hotel Reservations

Guests who have not checked in for stays between March 16 – 31, 2020 may modify or cancel their room or package up until their original check-in date. If guests don’t take any action, Disney will automatically process a refund within seven days of the original check-in date.

Be Patient

Disney’s website and call center are sure to be swamped with traffic and calls.  If you need to speak with someone at Disney, please be patient and understand they are dealing with an unprecedented and difficult situation.

Other News

Disneyland Closing

On Thursday, March 12, 2020, the company announced that Disneyland in California will close at the end of business Friday, March 13th. This means that Starting Saturday, March 14th, Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure will be closed for business. Disneyland Resort Hotels will remain open until Monday, March 16th to allow for necessary travel arrangements. At this time, Downtown Disney will remain open. The closures are in effect at least through the end of March.

Disneyland guests who have travel planned during this time will receive full refunds.

Asia Parks

Shanghai Disneyland, which closed January 24th, Hong Kong Disneyland, which closed January 26th, and Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea remain closed.  Tokyo parks were slated to reopen, but will now remain closed.
