Sometimes it is hard to draw a line between an idea that is genius and one that is just a little too crazy. This may well be one of those times.
Reports recently flooded the internet that Zuri’s Sweets Shop, one of the newest locations to open in the Harambe Market section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, started serving up desserts purposefully shaped to look like, well, animal droppings.
In addition to more typical sweets like lollipops, caramel apples, and fudge, the shop offered four different varieties of animal-inspired treats: giraffe, elephant, rhino and cotton-top tamarin.
However, when I stopped by the shop recently, the Cast Members said that the poo treats were part of a test and were no longer available. They told me that literally hundreds of guests had come into the shop looking for the dung.
No more dung desserts? That stinks!
Let’s review what was available – for a very short time:
Bye Bye Dung
In their wisdom, the culinary managers at Disney didn’t directly label the offerings as poo during their limited availability. Instead, each dessert carried the name of the animal that “generated” it and you were encouraged to match the dropping to the species.
Some of the desserts looked amazing realistic – maybe too much so. There were four different offerings:
The giraffe dessert was made up of five brownie-like pellets with caramel.
The elephant dessert contained peanut butter, yellow coconut flakes, and sweet rolled oats.
The tamarin dessert included chocolate-peanut butter fudge and pretzels pearls.
The hippo dessert had caramel brownie, peanut butter, oats, and chocolate fudge.
Each of these items cost $3.99 or one Disney Dining Plan snack credit.
Still Some Fun Treats
While the desert droppings are gone, the shop still offers some interesting items.
Let’s take a look:
Much of the seating around the Harambe Market is outdoors, but there is plenty of shade and umbrellas to protect you from the Florida sun.
Are you sorry to hear the desserts made to look like animal poo are no longer available?
