I’ve had many guest writers on the site offering Armchair Imagineering ideas. Until now, becoming an Imagineer has been little more than a far-off dream. Now, Disney is offering an “Imagineering in a Box” class through Kahn Academy, and your dream might not be so far-off now!
Kahn Academy is an open educational system providing a variety of lessons to students completely free of charge.
Kahn Academy has now teamed up with Disney Imagineers to provide scalable lessons for individual or classroom learning.
The lessons, which cover topics like Creating Worlds (theme, layout, landscape, graphics, color, and sound), Designing Attractions (thrill, story, high concept, storyboarding, pitching), and Bringing Characters to Life, include videos from real Disney Imagineers who share how they use a wide range of skills like design, math, physics, and of course engineering. There are a total of 32 videos!
This one-of-a-kind learning experience also includes teacher resources with help integrating the activities into your classroom. Disney says that the purpose of this program is to “ignite curiosity, inspire creativity, and encourage innovation” to help kids “create the future they imagine”.
Here is the link to this program: Imagineering in a Box.
