Ever since it closed on January 25, fans have waited for the time when Shanghai Disneyland would reopen. That happened today: May 11, 2020.
Disney reported that Shanghai Cast Members took great care to prepare for the reopening. While today was an important milestone in Disney history, it is one step in a many-phased process. There are sure to be many other milestones ahead as this Disney park and others begin to open once again.
Disney applied what they learned in the reopening of Shanghai Disneytown (the Chinese equivalent of Downtown Disney or Disney Springs) to the reopening of the theme park.
Let’s take a look at some photos of this big day:
Guests wore face masks as they entered the park, and the new procedures Disney put in place in Shanghai may foretell what other parks will see in the future as they reopen.
Disney limited the number of guests allowed into the park, required masks, and checked guests for fever before allowing them to enter. They also allowed only a small number of people into the park, instituted social distancing standards, and implemented new sanitization procedures.
