Disney World has announced modifications to the virtual queue for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

In the past, you had to be through security, through the ticket check-in, and in the park when it opened.  You would then use the My Disney Experience app on your smartphone to (try to) get a reservation in the virtual queue.  Most days, all the virtual queue reservations would be gone within minutes of when the park opened and the queue opened.

New Rise of the Resistance Virtual Queue Process

Disney is making a change.

Now, Disney will offer staggered booking windows.  They will start at 10 am, but will also open additional slots at 1 pm and 4 pm.  This means that you no longer have to be at the park when it opens to (try to) get into the virtual queue.

I’ve mentioned “try to” a few times, since no matter if there is one booking window or three, it may still be challenging to get a spot in the queue for Rise of the Resistance.  The attraction is ultra-popular, and will likely have more demand (people who want to ride) than supply (available spots to ride) for some time to come.

That said, park capacity will be very limited when initially reopening from the Coronavirus.  We will see how the limited number of park guests matches up with the newly limited capacity of the attraction to account for social distancing.

Virtual Queue Booking Process

Aside from three staggered booking windows, the rest of the process is very similar.  This is how the virtual queue process works:

  • Make sure you have the My Disney Experience app installed on your smartphone.
  • After you are through security, past the ticket scanners, and in the park, log in to your account at one of the three distribution times (10 am, 1 pm, or 4 pm).
  • Select “Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Virtual Queue” on the home screen.
  • Check out the status of the queue and the steps for joining.
  • Keep your fingers crossed that you can snag a spot!
Star Wars Galaxys Edge Rise of the Resistance will now offer three staggered booking windows for the virtual queue system.

Star Wars Galaxys Edge Rise of the Resistance will now offer three staggered booking windows for the virtual queue system.

Disney will limit each guest to one spot in the virtual queue each day.  You might want to ride multiple times in a day, but that is not possible right now.

If your My Disney Experience account is linked to the park tickets for others in your group, you can enroll everyone in the virtual queue at the same time.

Tip:  Check that your smartphone has push notifications turned on for My Disney Experience.  That way, the app will let you know when your group is up and you can experience Rise of the Resistance – one of the best Disney attractions ever!
