Movie Review: The Jungle Cruise

In a movie reminiscent of Indiana Jones, Pirates Curse of the Black Pearl, and the African Queen, Jungle Cruise is a suspenseful and fun romp down the Amazon River. Jungle Cruise is a movie based on Disney’s hit attraction of the same name.

The producers have included homages to the attraction such as skippers, corny “dad” jokes, Trader Sam (with a twist), Jungle Navigation Company, and the backside of water!  Like the attraction having Skipper Canteen restaurant the movie also has a restaurant located on the Amazon River.  Could it be of the same name?

The Story

Frank Wolff is a skipper piloting his boat down the Amazon River giving tourists an up-close and personal view of the 8th wonder of the world, the backside of water.  That is until Dr. Lilly Houghton and her brother MacGregor arrive with the intent of hiring a skipper to guide them down the Amazon.

Afterward, nothing goes right or is what it seems.  Will the trio survive or will their many pursuers prevent them from reaching their ultimate goal?   If you want answers to this question and more, you will have to see for yourself!

My Thoughts

As a moviegoer, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.  It was adventurous yet humerus.  It reminded you of the attraction yet had twists and turns. Dwayne Johnson’s performance was spot on. He pulled of both the physical stunts as well as the humor.  Actress Emily Blunt and actor Jack Whitehall, who played her brother, pulled you into the movie-making you care about what will happen with these characters.

On a whole, I highly recommend this movie for an evening of fun and adventure.  This movie is in theaters now and is also on Disney+ premium.

Did you see the Jungle Cruise movie?  Will you?  Thoughts?
