For some, The Magic of Disney Animation in the Animation Courtyard section of Disney’s Hollywood Studios is a bit of a hollow, former version of itself.
While there is a show about animation, there are no more true animators working on real Disney movies.
While there is some great animation artwork on display, some of the interactive displays, especially the computerized ones, are a bit dated.
While there is a fun and free animation class, some of the spaces seem underutilized.
Disney recently took action to better utilize some of the space in the animation building with a Minnie Mouse meet-and-greet.
Disney seems to be on a tear in building out meet-and-greet areas, from Monsters Inc. to the Princess Fairytale Hall at the Magic Kingdom. Some folks think that it is too much, but many Walt Disney World visitors seem to want these opportunities to meet characters.
The new meet-and-greet area currently has a nondescript “Drawing Room” sign. It could be that a more permanent sign isn’t ready quite yet.
The entrance queue has many fun posters that include some fun tributes.
When I visited with Minnie, there was very little wait, perhaps just five minutes. The fact that there isn’t yet descriptive signage or notice of this area on park maps or Times Guides means that you can see a favorite character quickly. I’m sure once the word gets out, that will change.
This meet and greet experience is currently open daily from 10:00am – 2:30pm and from 3:30pm – 7:30pm. The operating hours are subject to change.
Should Disney open even more character meet-and-greets?
