What better way to punctuate a feel-good Disney visit than taking a few minutes to give back? Disney guests looking for a chance to do something wonderful before Thanksgiving will have the perfect opportunity, as Disney Parks, Experiences and Products and well-known non-profit Points of Light will host “Family Volunteer Day” Saturday, November 23, 2019, at Disney Springs.
The event will be a celebration of service, and will encourage families to spend time together volunteering, either locally in Central Florida, or in their home communities.
Fun Festivities Planned
Festivities will get under way at 10:30 a.m. with a ceremony hosted by Bob Chapek, the chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products. Disney and Points of Light will honor their first ever Volunteer Family of the Year, the Aguirre family of McAllen, Texas. The Aguirres were chosen following a nationwide search on “Good Morning America,” and will be recognized for their work assisting the homeless in their hometown.
Families Can Volunteer at Disney Springs
After the ceremony, visitors will have a chance to complete a variety of family-based service projects from 11 AM to 2 PM in the Marketplace at Disney Springs. Participating families will receive discounts and other offers from various Disney Springs food and retail locations.
“Family Volunteer Day” is an annual initiative of Points of Light held the weekend before Thanksgiving, and Disney is a long-time supporter.
Disney and Points of Light have driven an amazing three million hours of good works via the Disney Family Volunteering Reward Program, which provides Disney park tickets to participating schools and organizations that host volunteer opportunities for families.
Nearly 700,000 people have volunteered through the program since its launch in January 2018, including the efforts of over 1,700 organizations that have been introduced to family volunteerism through the initiative.
