Disney World’s ESPN Wide World Of Sports has historically hosted a variety of sporting events including cheer competitions, baseball teams, football programs, and even e-sports recently.

On June 5th, 2022, Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex will add the Special Olympics to its repertoire! The Special Olympics USA Games Organizing Committee confirmed the hosting location at a special celebration at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at which time they also revealed the logo for the 2022 games. For the first time, the logo has been designed by nine Special Olympics athletes!

The games will include 4,000 athletes, up to 16 Olympic-type team and individual sports plus up to five demonstration sports. A spokesperson from the Special Olympics recognized that it takes extreme commitment and dedication to get to this level and commends the competitors.

This announcement isn’t only about the athletes, though. Disney will also sponsor the games as the Presenting Partner for Volunteer Programs, which will support friends, families, and fans of participating athletes. This includes 10,000 volunteers, 1,500 coaches, and 125,000 fans.

The Special Olympics removes barriers to athletes who may not otherwise be able to compete in a sport they love. These athletes inspire millions of people around the world whether they have a disability or are motivated by those who overcome such obstacles.
