For many of us, the idea of being on a stage in front of adoring fans is just a dream; but dreams do come true at Disney World, and it is possible for you to be on stage there.
Of course, there are no guarantees that you can claim your place in the spotlight, but there are plenty of opportunities.
Let’s take a look at eleven of the many ways you can have a few moments of fame at Disney World.
Fame in The Magic Kingdom
1 – Your Moment In The Spotlight: The Welcome Family
What Is It: Each day a family is selected to participate in the Magic Kingdom Opening Ceremony. They get to stand on the Main Street USA Train Station and look out over the crowd in the entrance plaza, waving and welcoming everyone.
How You Get Selected: The family is selected at random. It might help if you show up early and look enthusiastic.
2 – Your Moment In The Spotlight: Parade Marshall
What Is It: You get to ride at the start of a Magic Kingdom daytime parade and wave to everyone as you go by.
How You Get Selected: This is also based on random selection.
What Is It: Each afternoon the Magic Kingdom puts on a short ceremony while lowering the flag for the day. A US Military Veteran gets to help lower the flag in this moving and patriotic ceremony. By the way, if you haven’t seen it yet, you really should.
How You Get Selected: If you are a veteran, stop by Guest Relations first thing in the morning to see if you might be able to get this spot of honor.
What Is It: We all know that laughter is more powerful than screams when generating power for Monstropolis. Follow the directions in the queue area to text your best, short, clean joke for consideration.
How You Get Selected: Just send your joke in and hope for the best. Every show needs several jokes, so you’ve got a good shot to hear your name read by a monster.

5 – Your Moment In The Spotlight: Turtle Talk With Crush
What Is It: Turtle Talk is an amazing interactive show that takes place in The Seas with Nemo Pavilion in Future World. Crush the turtle carries on a conversation with the humans in the audience, answering their questions. He mostly likes talking with little kids, who are seated on the floor in the front of the theater.
How You Get Selected: Tell your child to sit near the front, have a question in mind, and to be enthusiastic but polite. You might see the trend here – enthusiasm is key.
What Is It: Here is your chance to be an extra during a simulated filming of a crowd scene. Dress up in middle-eastern styled robes and ham it up screaming and looking afraid.
How You Get Selected: The hosts for the show ask for volunteers. Sit near the front. When the request is made, wave and jump up and down to – you guessed it – show your enthusiasm.
8 – Your Moment In The Spotlight: Jedi Training Academy
What Is It: Boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 12 put on a Star Wars-ish brown robe and learn how to wield a light saber. During a show that takes place many times each day near the Star Tours attraction, they actually engage in quick battle with Darth Vader himself. Parents, have your cameras ready.
How You Get Selected: This is one of the few experiences you can actually sign up for and, assuming you get there early in the morning and spots are still available, are guaranteed a spot.
9 – Your Moment In The Spotlight: Streetmosphere
What Is It: Citizens of Hollywood interact with guests in skits that take place on Hollywood Boulevard and Sunset Strip. I had a chance to do this myself – it was great fun!
How You Get Selected: Look for the citizens and, yes you guessed it, look enthusiastic.
What Is It: This is the ultimate for getting into the show at Disney World. Those who pass the audition process get to sing live on stage, get critiqued by the Disney-friendly judges, and possible win the one “Dream Ticket” awarded to the grand winner each day that guarantees an audition for the real American Idol TV show.
How You Get Selected: Audition for a chance to perform during the show. Get there early in the morning for the best opportunity.
What Is It: At one point during the show, performers invite little kids to march around the state of the theater in the round. Many of them look like they are having the time of their lives! As of this moment, the show is moving, and we don’t yet know the details on the new show. However, this element is likely to return.
How You Get Selected: Be an enthusiastic kid, and try to sit near the floor level.
