The ambitious folks at the Walt Disney Company continue their multi-year job of converting the current Disney Springs shopping, dining, and entertainment complex into the new Disney Springs.
At this moment, nearly all of Disney Springs is a huge and confusing construction zone. Constantly changing construction walls make navigating the shops and restaurants a new experience each time you visit.
Huge portions of the parking lots are closed so that Disney can build new parking garages.
All these temporary changes make it a bit more challenging to enjoy Disney Springs right now, but by 2016, when everything is scheduled to be finished, the new area is sure to be amazing with double the number of dining and shopping options.
Road and Garage Concept Art
Before Disney announced the development of Disney Springs back in March of 2013, parking and traffic congestion were serious problems. Disney is making big changes to improve on those issues.
Disney is working right now to expand Lake Buena Vista Drive from seven lanes to ten lanes. Lake Buena Vista Drive is the primary road that sits between Disney Springs and Interstate 4.
The two new parking garages should help ease parking problems. The first garage is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2014 and will add a very welcome 4,000 new parking spots.
New pedestrian bridges will lead into both the Marketplace section of Disney Springs as well as the West Side.
One of the most exciting developments is a new interchange off of Interstate 4 that will allow drivers to access Disney Springs directly from the highway without having to navigate busy, confusing, and congested city streets.
