Disney welcomed a new baby giraffe on January 14th around 2pm! The giraffe is part of the Species Survival Plan (SSP), which is overseen by The Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
This Masai Giraffe is the second of its kind to be born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in the last year. You may remember baby Aelia’s birth last year to mother Lily. She was born in June and joined her family on the savanna in August.
The new baby was born to Mara and is about six feet tall! Keepers say it’s too early to tell this giraffe’s gender, but mom and baby are bonding well and is already out for guests to view at Kilimanjaro Safaris.
