8 – Plan for Florida Weather
Quick take: The sun can be brutal, the rains can be torrential, and the winters can actually be cold. Be ready for of all these conditions.
When you think of Florida weather, you probably think of the shining sun, cool breezes, and swaying palm trees. In a word: perfection.
That can be true, but the weather in Florida isn’t always beautiful.
Sun: The sun in Florida can be brutally intense. Folks from northern climates are often surprised at how strong and intense the rays of the sun feel in Florida. It is very easy to get a sunburn in Florida, which is one of the fastest and most painful ways to ruin your vacation. Come prepared with plenty of sun block, even if you normally aren’t susceptible to sunburns at home.
Rain: While Central Florida does have occasional gray days filled with long-lasting showers, it is much more common to experience a quick afternoon downpour, after which the skies clear and the sun comes out again. Plan for these rainy moments by bringing your own rain ponchos so that you can keep having fun while others huddle in gift shops waiting for the rain to stop. Also, check the weather in the morning. If it looks like it’s going to rain, you may want to save the indoor attractions for this time of day.
Heat: If you plan to visit Disney World when the weather is warm, which is most of the year, be prepared for high temperatures and high humidity. This combination can really zap your energy. Be sure to drink plenty of water, and take breaks indoors.
If you plan to visit Disney World in the winter, which can be a great time to go, remember that it can actually get chilly especially in the mornings and evenings. Bring clothes to dress in layers so that you can keep having fun regardless of the temperature changes throughout the day.
Take away: Be sure to pack plenty of sun screen, rain ponchos, and clothes you can wear in layers.
