A beginner's guide to planning a Disney World vacation.

Disney Vacations 101

5 – Consider a Character Meal

Quick take: Dining with Disney characters can be fun and a great way to get your “must have” photographs and autographs.

For many kids, and many adults as well, the chance to give Mickey Mouse a big hug or see Cinderella in person can be the highlight of a Disney vacation. Fortunately, Disney provides many ways for you to see characters, including plenty of meet-and-greet locations in the Disney parks.

Seeing Disney characters at an in-park meet-and-greet location is all well and good, but it may mean a long wait in line and a short period with the character giving your family just enough time for a hug, a photo, and an autograph before it is time to move on.

If you are looking for a special treat, however, you can book a Disney Character Meal. You will get a chance to enjoy a sit-down meal, and also spend a bit more quality time with Disney characters. Eating food and meeting characters:  it’s a great two-for-one deal.

There are many options for character meals.  You can eat breakfast, lunch, or dinner at locations inside the parks (where you must also pay for admission to get into the park itself first) and locations in the Disney Resort Hotels.  Plus, there are different characters at different meals.

Take away: You can make your Disney Character Meal reservations on the Disney web site, by calling 1-407-WDW-DINE (939-3463), or by working with your travel agent.
