A beginner's guide to planning a Disney World vacation.

Disney Vacations 101

11 – Consider a Travel Agent

Quick take: An Authorized Disney Vacation Planner can use his or her expertise to help you plan the best possible vacation and can often save you money, all at no cost to you.

If you have spent any time at all reading through this site or others like it, you realize by now that there is a lot to consider when planning your Disney World vacation. From tickets to resorts, from FastPass+ to Advance Dining Reservations, there are countless details to consider and dozens of different plans you can make.

Before going forward, I would like to say that I think it is important that you do some research yourself so that you can better understand your own interests and the options that might work best for you and your family. Unless you have some level of background on the options, you won’t be able to help yourself plan or get someone to effectively help you.

Given that, there are two ways you can go about planning your Disney vacation: on your own, or with the help of a travel agent.

On Your Own: Every year, millions of people successfully make all their vacation plans on their own. For those who enjoy the process, who love to research, or who just want to have complete control over the process, this can be a good choice. Websites like World Of Walt provide plenty of Disney-related articles and even discussion forums where you can chat with fellow Disney fans. Disney’s web site is a great source of information too.

Travel Agent: Using a travel agent can help ensure you get the best deal, and gives you the chance to talk with a live person about your interests. It also gives you someone to help make all the arrangements. The best agents do not charge you any fee for their services (they get paid a commission by Disney). If you choose to use an agent, realize that Disney specially trains selected travel agencies and designates them as “Authorized Disney Vacation Planners.” The agents complete an extensive course called the “Disney College of Knowledge” so that they understand all the ins-and-outs of Disney vacations. Be sure to look for these designations when you select an agent.  Check out our offer where you can get a $50 gift card for your Disney World vacation when you use our partner travel agent.
