First off, can we just hop into this article assuming you know about the Disney Dining Plan and the rudimentary basics of the Dining Plan? Basically, it’s a prepaid plan where you then have credits you can use toward meals and snacks at Disney: Sometimes you even get it free! But as I was perusing the Disney website the other day (yes, this is how I pass my time when I’m bored: #disneynerd!), I noticed the description Disney gives for the snacks you can get on the Disney Dining Plan. It lists several options you can get for snacks but man oh man, its ideas of snacks are, I’m sorry to say, kind of pathetic. Milk? Pop? Popcorn scoop? Fresh Fruit? Well, I guess after reading that, I felt it was my civic duty to tell you that you can get so much more for your snack credit. And thus, listed next are my five favorite snack credits that help you get the most bang for your credit.
Yes, I know you can have Starbucks anywhere in the world, and I usually shun anything I can have other places. That’s not what I come to Disney for. But still, I have found that starting off my day with a large drink from Starbucks using just one snack credit, can really kick off my day in all the right ways.
Cupcakes and so much more baked sweetness!
There are so many cupcakes and other baked goods at Disney and many of them are only a snack credit away from you enjoying that wonderful sugary goodness. Try cute ones, like Frozen themed or Beauty and Beast themed or try some fun flavors like the Butterfinger cupcake (one of my favorites) or even switch it up a bit and get a whoopee pie, which is basically a cupcake cut in half with the frosting in the middle. You won’t be disappointed by whichever one (or two, or three) you choose!
Breakfast of Champions
If you’re staying on property and feel like a “light” breakfast, there are many snack credits that can accommodate your first bites of the day, whether you want something sweet or savory. My personal favorite breakfast of choice is biscuits and gravy. Two flaky biscuits buried in peppery, thick gravy are just what I need to hit the parks running. Although delicious beyond belief, I’ve opted not to post a photo because well, let’s just say, they’re not the most photogenic food out there. But, hey, looks aren’t everything – taste is!
Dole out the good stuff!
I can’t go to Magic Kingdom without enjoying my absolute favorite treat every time- the Dole Whip Float. You get a large cup of sweet pineapple soft serve that sits in pool of refreshing pineapple juice. There is nothing better for quenching your thirst and cooling off your throat on a hot day in Disney. I’m actually kind of amazed that this is only one snack credit. It just seems too good to be true!
Popcorn Done Right
As mentioned before, yes, you can get a “scoop” of popcorn for a snack credit. And don’t get me wrong, I love the buttery, salty goodness of Disney popcorn and I often pay for 2 or 3 of these lovely little snacks each trip. But what I save my snack credit for is the Cadillac of popcorn. To discover this nirvana for yourself, walk over to the Germany Pavilion and enter Karamel Kuche, which I’m pretty sure means caramel heaven. There are so many wonderful things to choose from in this shop that are snack credits, but I wait in line to buy a fresh LARGE bag of caramel corn every time. Now, this is a snack you don’t save for later! Dig into it while it’s still warm and your taste buds will forever be in your debt!
A Meal in a Snack
There are actually quite a few snack credits out there that can be replacement meals. There are the French Fries with Pulled Pork and Cheese at Flame Tree Barbecue in Animal Kingdom. Or eat an entire Funnel Cake covered in strawberries and soft serve ice cream while walking around Hollywood Studios. Or maybe even order a side of soup at just about any restaurant for your meal snack. But my favorite is the Chicken Fried Rice at the Yak & Yeti Local Food Café in Animal Kingdom. I get that and then my daughter gets the egg roll snack and we split it. We both come away from our “snack meal” full and satisfied.
So, if you have the dining plan, make the most out of it by checking those menus for snack credits that give you the most bang for your buck. Of course, if you’re craving a Mickey Bar or a piece of fruit, by all means, get what makes you happy. You know what would really make me happy?…if Disney would create a snack-only dining plan. I would sign up for that every visit!
