Skyliner updates abound as Disney prepares to open the much-anticipated new transportation option in Walt Disney World.
While there’s no opening date yet – rest assured, that will be coming in yet another update – it is expected to open sometime in the Fall and will likely correspond with Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opening in Disney’s Hollywood Studios on August 29th.
Disney recently released the estimated travel times for the Skyliner!
- Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort to Disney’s Hollywood Studios: 5 to 6 minutes
- Caribbean Beach to Disney’s Pop Century Resort or Disney’s Art of Animation Resort: 6 minutes
- Caribbean Beach to Disney’s Riviera Resort: 5 minutes
- Riviera to Epcot’s International Gateway: 9 minutes
- Caribbean Beach to International Gateway: 15 minutes
The gondolas are said to travel just over 11 miles per hour, which doesn’t seem very fast, but it looks and feels faster than it is.
Keep in mind that these are real travel times – from take-off to landing – and do not include wait times and loading times. However, the gondola systems, in general, are efficient, and loading and unloading can go very quickly. You can expect longer lines just after the Skyliner opens as guests are experiencing the new “attraction” and Cast Members are learning and refining their new job, but once all the kinks are worked out, things will speed up.
Keep in mind that you can wait 20 minutes or more for a bus; you probably will not wait that long for a gondola since they travel continuously. Regardless, you should allow extra time for the total travel and for transfer at Caribbean Beach when coming from or going to Disney’s Pop Century Resort or Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, which share a terminal situated over Hourglass Lake.
