Have you ever dreamed of being an Imagineer? Well, if you are at least 18 years old, and a full-time junior, senior, or graduate student at a US college or university, you may be qualified to enter the Walt Disney Imagineering Imaginations Design Challenge!
The scholarship competition started in 1991 by legendary Imagineer Marty Sklar, and for the last 27 years hundreds of students have competed. Participants have gone on to earn internships and even full-time employment with Walt Disney Imagineer.
Let’s take a look at some details of the challenge!
Who Can Enter
As I mentioned above, participants must be current college students or graduated no earlier than May 2018.
Teams should include at least two and no more than four people from a variety of disciplines including arts, engineering, architecture, technology, urban planning, and more.
This Year’s Competition
This years competition challenges participants to explore and share natural and ancient wonders of the world. Submissions must honor the environment, history, cultural codes, and local ordinances based on the area competitors choose to explore. Final projects should integrate traditional methodologies with advanced technology and focus on family-friendly storytelling.
Projects should create immersive experiences that could be used in any of the Disney Parks, Disney resort hotels, attractions, or Disney Cruise Line ships. Participants and their submissions will be judged based on mastery of skills used, market perspective, diversity, and the teams’ ability to recognize the cultural nuances of their selected locations how the project impacts the community. Since participants are being considered by Imagineers, they’re also looking at the potential guest experience.
