Disney Files Permit to Re-Route Road Near Grand Floridan – Space For Something New?

Disney has filed a permit to reroute Floridian Way, the road that leads to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa.  According to the filing with the South Florida Water Management District, which reviews and approves many construction projects in central and south Florida, the road will shift further west – creating a space between The Grand Floridian and the Magic Kingdom.

This road change is part of the overall project to improve traffic flow around the Magic Kingdom and its area resort hotels, as well as the Ticket and Transportation Center.

This project is interesting in that it carves out a section of land directly next to the Magic Kingdom.  Plus, Disney doesn’t usually go to the expense of moving roads unless there is a good reason for doing so.

Future Expansion

In the same way that Disney’s Contemporary Resort sits directly next to the Magic Kingdom, this new patch of land has a similar “location, location, location” advantage in being close to the world’s most popular theme park.  It is prime real estate that Disney could, someday, use to build a new resort, attraction, or some other offering.  It is even possible that any new facility created on this plot of land could be designed to tie into the Magic Kingdom resort monorail loop.

Should Disney build another resort hotel next to the Magic Kingdom?
