I don’t know about you, but when I’m on vacation, I want ice cream! Oh sure, I want a nice steak and a tasty cocktail here or there, but what really evokes the whole “I’m on vacation and thus throwing all healthy living rules out the window,” is some good ol’ fashioned ice cream.

It was really hard (and I mean really, really hard) to pick just my top five ice cream venues at Disney, but here we go, off to visit five places to enjoy that soul satisfying feeling that there’s nothing in this world that ice cream can’t make better.

Who doesn't love ice cream?

5. Ghirardelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop

I’ll kind of admit, I have a slight addiction to those little squares of heaven that Ghirardelli makes. I absolutely love their chocolate. If you take the best chocolate around and combine it with rich and creamy ice cream, you’re bound to have a winner!

You just can’t have a bad combo at this place. Whether you go all out and get the Lands End Salted Caramel Brownie Sundae or stick with their World Famous Hot Fudge Sundae (as we did), you’re going to walk away with a smile.

Ghirardelli is guaranteed to put a smile on your face if you get one of their sundaes.

4. Teppan Edo

Bet you didn’t see this coming! Well, neither did I. And I seriously thought twice about including this, but the best soft serve ice cream I’ve ever eaten is a green tea soft serve after my meal at Teppan Edo. It was sweet and smooth with just a hint of green tea. It was one of the best ends to a meal that I’ve ever had. But if you don’t want to splurge on a meal from Teppan Edo, here’s a hint, you can also get a bowl of this deliciousness from Katsura Grill in the Japan Pavilion at Epcot.

3. L’Artisan des Glaces

My personal  thought is that everything from France is delicious but I really didn’t know what to expect of the ice cream in the French Pavilion at Epcot. And then when someone told me you can have ice cream on brioche bread, and I’m pretty sure I thought they were pulling my leg. But it’s true!

Go to L’Artisan des Glaces and order the Croque Glace. You get to choose your ice cream flavor plus your favorite topping. Then the magic begins. They place your ice cream on half of Homemade Brioche bun, slowly pour the syrup over it, put the top of the bun on and press it together. You get a soft, warm outside with ice cream just beginning to melt on the inside. And it’s served in a mock French newspaper. This is an experience that you must take part of at least once in a lifetime.

At L’Artisan des Glaces, half of the enjoyment is just watching them make your ice cream treat.

2. Ample Hills Creamery

This bright cheery little ice cream shop along the Boarwalk just beckons of summer fun. They have tons of delicious and unique flavors like PB Wins the Cup and Ooey Gooey Butter Cake.

In fact they have so many choices, they knew it would be difficult for many people to choose just one, so they actually offer a flight of ice cream, where you can choose up to 6 individual scoops of ice cream. This is a great option for indecisive people or just those people that want a little bit of goodness from many choices. I say go big or go home and get a sundae with a brownie or cake on the bottom and your choice of ice creams and toppings on it. Oh, and get a friend to share it with! This is a BIG sundae!

Sit outside on the boardwalk at night and take some time to simply relax and enjoy your ice cream.

1. Beaches & Cream Soda Shop

Speaking of big sundaes, get transported back in time and head to Beaches & Cream Soda Shop for some giant ice cream sundaes. Sure, there’s the infamous Kitchen Sink that serves 4+, has 5 kinds of ice cream and topped with every kind of topping they have in the house, but that’s not where my heart lives. My heart lives eternal in the No Way Jose Sundae. It has Chocolate and Vanilla ice cream buried in peanut butter and hot fudge sauce that spills out of the oversized serving glass. It is one of the most wonderful treats I have ever had the pleasure of eating.

I say “Yes Way!” to the No Way Jose Sundae at Beaches & Cream Soda Shop.

It seems the more ice cream I have at Disney, the more I learn that I haven’t had! I cannot wait to see what I get on my next visit. No matter what it is, it’s going to be wonderful!
