Disney has announced a worldwide ban on single-use plastic straws and coffee stirrers. Now, all Disney-owned theme parks, water parks, and properties across the globe have eliminated their use of such products. This includes Disney Springs and all Disney resort hotels.
Disney says this is part of their responsibility to the environment. This decision means that 175 million straws and 13 million stirrers every year will stay out of landfills.
You may remember last year when Disney announced the pending ban. Since the announcement, they have introduced reusable bags at all retail locations and started to phase out plastic products such as straws and stirrers. The first park to ban straws was Disney’s Animal Kingdom so the disposable products didn’t harm the animals. Those changes are now a reality at all of Disney’s properties.
Disney has replaced all plastic straws and stirrers with paper, but if you don’t like paper straws, you can bring your own. Consider purchasing reusable straws made of either silicone or stainless steel to support Disney’s initiative.
Disney eliminates plastic straws. Good idea?
