Disney World is known for celebrations. Whether it is the winning team in the super bowl, a hard-earned graduation, or a honeymoon, Disney can make any celebration just a bit more special.
The same is true for birthdays. Many people celebrate the passing of another year at Disney World, so they are ready to help you make your day extra special. Whether your budget is big or small, or whether you’ve planned far in advance or are just having some fun on the spur-of-the-moment, Disney has you covered.
Before we talk about some specific experiences, if you are celebrating a birthday (or any other special event), be sure to stop by Guest Services at one of the parks to request a free “It’s My Birthday” button. The button doesn’t guarantee anything, but it is very likely that many Disney Cast Members, and perhaps even some other guests, will take a moment to wish you a happy birthday. Also, while there are no guarantees, you may also get surprised by some little treats along your way.
Let’s look at six ways you can make your birthday celebration just a bit more special at Disney World.
1 – Character Meal
I’m a big fan of Disney Character Meals. You get a meal and the chance to meet plenty of fun Disney characters. You don’t have to wait in a line since the characters come to you and get to spend more time with you than they would at a typical meet-and-greet in the parks. In total, a character meal is fun, so it is a great place to celebrate a birthday. If you tell your server that someone in your party is having a birthday, they can usually arrange for a special treat like a cupcake.
2 – Basic Cake at a Restaurant
Even if you haven’t planned ahead, most sit down restaurants can arrange for a basic chocolate or vanilla birthday cake during your meal. Just let the restaurant host or hostess know you would like a birthday cake.
3 – Custom Cake
For those who plan ahead and provide a 72 hours notice, you can call the Disney bakery cake-ordering hotline (407-827-2253) to have Disney create a customized cake and have it delivered to your table service restaurant. What type of cake you can get depends on the location at which you will receive it. For example, you can always get a cake with chocolate frosting or a vanilla cake with vanilla frosting. However, if you are looking for something a bit more unique, Deluxe Resort bakeries can usually do more. The bakery at the Grand Floridian, which handles most of the wedding cakes for Disney World, has the most flexibility.
4 – Private Party at Goofy’s Candy Company
Goofy’s Candy Company in Disney Springs will put on a birthday party for kids age three and up. You can select either a princess or a Goofy theme and invite up to eleven guests (in addition to the birthday boy or birthday girl). The Goofy party includes an autographed photo of Goofy and a Goofy gumball machine for the birthday kid. The princess party includes an autographed photo of Cinderella and a princess sash, tiara, and glass slipper for the birthday kid. The party can include a “create your own treat” option where guests can decorate their own cupcake, rice crispy treat, or apple. Call (407) WDW-BDAY or (407) 939-2329 to make your reservation.
5 – In-Room Decorations
If you are staying at a Disney Resort Hotel, Disney Floral and Gifts can arrange to bring decorations to your room. Browse the selection of gifts online at www.DisneyFlorist.com, where you can select from items like flowers, balloons, and chocolate treats.
6 – Private Celebration
Did you have something even more special, or more particular, in mind? If you have the Imagination to dream it, and the budget to pay for it, Disney can do almost anything. Would you like to have a dozen Disney character show up at your Disney party? No problem. Special and fancy food requests? Can do. Just call Disney Catered Events at (321) 939-4648 or check out their web site at www.disneycateredevents.com. This is an expensive option, but if you have the budget they can make your dreams come true.
