  • In the world of theme parks, Disney rules the worldwide roost. Of course, Disney gave birth to the very first modern theme park when Disneyland opened in Anaheim, California in 1955. Since that time, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts – a subset of the Walt Disney Company – has continued to grow its worldwide theme park presence, and currently gobbles up a massive percentage of the market share.

  • Given the prices of park entry passes at Walt Disney World, it’s tempting to attack the theme parks at full speed and keep going until you pass out in bed as soon as the last firework has exploded. However, visitors escorting young children are often forced to take an extended midday break to allow the little ones to sleep, cool down, and clear their brains after theme park sensory overload. As you sit in your resort room with the minutes ticking by, it’s easy to feel as though your money is slipping away at the same time.

  • Main Street, U.S.A. at Magic Kingdom represents an idealized turn-of-the-century town square. Inspired by Walt Disney’ own memories of growing up in small town America, the street is a tribute to optimism and community, nostalgia and progress. It has many terrific details that support the stories of the place, but sadly some of those details are disappearing.

  • The Carousel of Progress is one of my favorite attractions. It is an audio animatronic show in a revolving theatre, set amid the futuristic spires of Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland. The show was designed by Walt Disney himself for the 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair, after which it spent seven years at Disneyland Park in California. Shortly after the opening of Magic Kingdom, the entire show was transported to Florida, where it has lived ever since.

  • The World Showcase at Disney World’s Epcot theme park opened in 1982 with pavilions dedicated to nine countries from across the globe. The countries represented three continents, but the large continent of Africa was conspicuously absent. Nevertheless, the World Showcase left room for several additional pavilions, and an area dedicated to the countries of Equatorial Africa was already in its conceptual stages by the time Epcot snipped its opening ribbon.

  • Disney’s Fort Wilderness is just a few miles away from the hustle and bustle of the Magic Kingdom. In fact, it is just a short boat or bus ride away. But Fort Wilderness feels like it is far away from the crowds and miles of concrete that make up the busiest theme park in the world. Fort Wilderness is forested and generally quiet. It feels like the great outdoors. And if you like horses, you will love Fort Wilderness.

  • If you have ever been to Walt Disney World, you have probably been delighted by the parades that march down the Main Street USA in the Magic Kingdom or wind around the streets of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The parades are a joy to watch, but they are also a marvel of technology. While the technology is well hidden behind the scenes, it is critical to the magical form of entertainment that Disney does like no other – a Disney parade.
